Dinosaur Piñata

My friend Jenn and I made a dinosaur piñata for my nephews birthday party. After researching a few tutorials we found this one most helpful. http://oursaturdayafternoon.blogspot.com/2014/01/diy-pinata-tutorial.html?m=1

Here are some photos of the process.

We used balloons, cardboard, a cereal box, duct tape, toilet paper rolls, and a folder to make the shape.

This is what the dinosaur looked like before we started the paper mâché process.

We did three layers of paper mâché. We cut two inch strips of newspaper and used 2 parts water and one part flour for the mâché.

Once the third layer was dry we used modge podge and green crepe paper to cover the news paper.

This was a process because we had to wait for the modge podge to dry before completley getting the under belly covered.

We then added orange details to make it look more like a dinosaur. We named him Roy.

We cut a half circle on his top to fill his belly with candy. Once Roy was stuffed we simply closed the half circle and put more crepe paper down to cover the slit.

We then put two holes for him to hang evenly. We reinforced the holes on the inside with duct tape.

We both really fell in love with Roy.

And so did my nephew!!!

This was such a fun project! Jenn and I are planning on making more piñata's, so stay tuned!

More Berets and other things :)

Jenn and I hosted another Craft Night at my studio. We finished up our pillows from the previous week and we taught our friends how to make berets. Here are a few pictures from the Frederick Craft Collective meeting.

Here is Brittany with her finished pillow.

Melissa made a beret

Co- president Jenn modeling her beret.

Each meeting we make food. This week we made waffles.

I have also been continuing my sewing lessons.  My student Sloane made her first elastic skirt!

I also started making a few summer garments. I think I am in denial that its going to stay cold for a few more months, but at least I am getting a good start for summer wear!

My goal is to make February a very productive month. Stay tuned for more projects, Craft Collective meetings, and new merchandise!

Long Time No Post

So it's been awhile since I have last posted, what with the Holidays and such, but I am going to get back into the swing of it.  Here is what I have been up to these last few weeks.

I hand made a few of my christmas presents. My wrapping could use a little work.
I made my boss at Venus on the Half Shell a few laundry bags.  This one is kind of funny because he gave me the McDonalds sheet, which I have used to make several skirts and a baby outfit.

I think I am going to make myself some of these as well.

I made a reversible circle scarf for my families traditional white elephant.

Here is my niece, Harper, in a Christmas dress I made her.

I started giving sewing lessons at the beginning of the new year. This is my student Lily.

Our first project is an elastic skirt with patch pockets. Here is Lily cutting her pockets.
I also started a craft collective with my friend Jenn. This was the inspiration for the first meeting.

This is a picture from our first meeting. It was so much fun.

At our next meeting, we are going to make berets. Jenn and I found a cute pattern on Martha Stewarts website. We had to alter it a little to make it a tad bit more slouchy.
Here I am working on getting the pattern just to our liking.

Finished beret selfie!!
One of my New Year's resolutions was to post more often. So stay tuned for more art updates.
